Jams - The Infinity of Awesome

Hello there loyal or unloyal blog followers!

Today we have a special piece for you - the meaning of a good jam.

You know what a jam is - it's that song, that not only gets stuck in your head, but creates that happy feeling of "Yeah! I want to sing along to that! That's mah jam!" This is a feeling I know I get from many musical mediums, though my personal favorite brand of music, Melodic Death Metal, doesn't really cater to it.

So, if none of my favorite music genre constitutes a jam, where do I derive my jams from?

Well, let me tell you a secret. There are pop songs all around you. Most of them are shit. This is a fact. But every once in a while, you find one song or one artist that just makes you grin with childish glee. That's a jam. Sometimes you find that one song that just makes you want to groove and move. That's a jam. It doesn't even need to be pop - you can find a jam most anywhere. Audible, singable lyrics help though.

Sometimes jams aren't just limited to a particular song by an artist. Sometimes they can be the entire artist's discography, or at least close to it.

Think about it. Queen. You know you love Queen. Especially if you're white. Now think of a Queen song you don't like. I'm not talking about a Queen song you're not in the mood for at the moment, but a Queen song you just out and out have never in your entire life liked.

That's right, you can't. Queen, like many other artists who produce the jams, just make you happy.

There's only other artist who has consistently pumped out the jams that both of us can agree is simply amazing and cannot fail at pumping out a jam.

And that person, my friends, is Scatman John.

Oh, sure, maybe you're going "what the hell? scat? jam? No whey!" Well, yah whey, brah! Scatman John is simply the greatest artist of all time. He's got the soul, he's got the funk, he's got the scat. He's even got Louis Armstrong in "Everybody Jam!" There's just something awesome about the way Scatman sings. We swear that sometimes it's even medicinal.

Now, these two artists are probably the only examples of consistent jam makers that I can think of. Sure, there's also Michael (Mikaeel?) Jackson, but let's be honest - he's been sucking dick both literally and metaphorically for a while now.

Some of our other favorite one-off jams include "Somebody's Watchin' Me" by Rockwell, the Van Canto cover of "Battery," Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" (aka the Rick Roll), Groove Dynasty's cover of "The Soulful Strut," Paramore's "That's What You Get," and others.

So consider some of your own jams and put them in perspective. Or don't. That's the point. Just enjoy the jam for what it is. Enjoy that sweet feeling of an awesome musical experience that's simply fun.

Signed most jammingly,
